The Department of Tourism in Northern Mindanao teed off the Limitless Adventure Cup 2026 on September 24 at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City, pairing competitive golf with a clear push for visitor spending and destination promotion across the region.
Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said the three-day tournament, running September 24 to 26, is organized in partnership with Pueblo de Oro. She noted that golfers usually compete in groups and spend no less than PHP5,000 a day on hotels and restaurants, framing the cup as both sport and economic activity.
About 50 golfers from various parts of Mindanao arrived for the opening day. Organizers are awarding trophies only, with no cash prizes, keeping the focus on play, partnerships, and showcasing Northern Mindanao as a place for quality golf and sporting events rather than purse-driven competition alone.
City Tourism Officer Mark Kenneth Jalapadan said City Hall supports golf tourism as Cagayan de Oro continues to emerge as a growing sports and leisure destination. The City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office is among the local offices backing the event and its hospitality linkages.
Coverage of the launch also linked the cup to the national “Discover More to Love” campaign. By hosting players, tourism stakeholders, government representatives, and business leaders across multiple divisions, DOT-10 aims to position the region as a premier sports and leisure tourism destination.
Golf tourism works differently from single-day sightseeing. Groups often stay overnight, book meals, and explore nearby attractions between rounds. That pattern is why Unchuan highlighted daily hotel and restaurant spending as a practical measure of what a well-staged tournament can bring into the local economy.
Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club provides a familiar venue for visitors already traveling to Cagayan de Oro for business or leisure. Anchoring the Limitless Adventure Cup there lets organizers concentrate logistics while giving visiting golfers a central base for lodging and dining in the city.
For Northern Mindanao, the cup is also a marketing platform. When golfers return home after three days of play, they carry first-hand impressions of course quality, hospitality, and city access that can influence future leisure trips, club outings, and corporate incentive travel.
DOT-10’s approach keeps incentives simple: recognition through trophies, stronger industry ties, and measurable visitor spend rather than large cash purses. That model suits a tourism-led event meant to build repeat travel interest across Mindanao while spotlighting Cagayan de Oro’s golf product.
As the Limitless Adventure Cup unfolds through September 26, Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao gain another weekend to show that sports tourism can support hotels, restaurants, and the wider leisure economy while highlighting the region’s growing role in golf travel.
